Arts & Culture
The Arts & Culture Program is the creative heartbeat of Downtown Milford, utilizing a high-impact calendar of 40+ annual experiences—including Pirates Day, the Fair on the Half Shell, CT Foodie Fest, public performances, exhibitions, and cultural celebrations—to activate our public spaces. By providing a platform for artists, makers, musicians, performers, and cultural organizations to showcase their work, we create immersive experiences that inspire creativity, innovation, and discovery.
Through visual arts, live music, performance, storytelling, culinary arts, and interactive programming, the initiative expands access to culture while fostering learning, creativity, and community connection. These experiences celebrate Milford’s unique coastal identity while strengthening the relationship between residents, visitors, and the creative community.
Arts and culture are essential drivers of placemaking, tourism, and economic vitality. By transforming streets, parks, and gathering spaces into vibrant destinations, the program encourages exploration, increases visitor engagement, supports local businesses, and creates pathways for artists and creatives to thrive. Strategic investment in arts and culture helps preserve Milford’s heritage while building new traditions that connect generations and contribute to a vibrant future.
Farmers Market
The Farmers Market Program is a seasonal agricultural program that centers on inspiring the youngest generations as the heart of our mission. More than a place for local food access, it is a foundational community space where stories begin and generations grow together.
Through an intentional approach to food access, we inspire healthy relationships with nutrition from an early age by creating interactive experiences that plant the seeds of lifelong wellness. Weekly seasonal markets, educational programming, children's activities, local artisan participation, and wellness-focused experiences encourage families to build healthy habits while supporting Connecticut farmers and small businesses.
Families have access to fresh produce, meat, eggs, and more than 50 locally made products, including organic, gluten-free, and vegan options, while supporting a sustainable farm-to-table food system that connects farms across Connecticut with Milford and surrounding communities.
As inspiring younger generations is at the heart of our mission, programs like the Children's Market and Piglets Club introduce children to agriculture through hands-on learning, arts and crafts, and interactive activities. Through Piglets Club, participating children earn $1 to purchase their own fruits and vegetables, teaching financial responsibility while fostering a lasting appreciation for local agriculture.
Community Engagement & Tourism
The Community Engagement & Tourism Program positions Downtown Milford as a year-round coastal destination where residents and visitors experience the community's unique character, hospitality, and quality of life. Through thoughtfully curated seasonal programming, family-friendly events, walking tours, downtown activations, and longstanding traditions, the program creates meaningful opportunities for people to gather, explore, and strengthen their connection to downtown.
By leveraging arts and culture as a catalyst for tourism and economic growth, the program attracts visitors from across Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Long Island while encouraging them to discover local businesses. Convenient access via Metro-North, the Milford Harbor, and abundant free downtown parking makes Downtown Milford an accessible destination for regional travelers.
This program cultivates a sense of belonging and reinforces Downtown Milford as a community where childhood experiences become lifelong traditions. In doing so, it increases regional awareness, inspires repeat visitation, strengthens Milford's reputation as one of Connecticut's premier coastal destinations, and creates a thriving downtown where visitors and residents support local businesses, strengthen community identity, and sustain traditions for generations.

Our Story: Growing Wellness, One Season at a Time
Since 2005, the Downtown Milford Farmers Market has been a cornerstone of community connection. Founded by four visionary women from the Downtown Milford Business Association and supported by the CT State Department of Agriculture and farmer Sabrina Santoro, the market has grown from a humble beginning at 54 River Street to a thriving weekly destination at Wasson Field. Each week, nearly 800 visitors gather to support local agriculture, nourish their families, and strengthen the local economy.
